Market of Diversity

Saturday and Sunday
21 / 22 October 2023

Grinding, sawing, planing, weaving – these and other ancient crafts are performed in the back alleys of the old town by 70-odd craftspeople in original costumes and using original tools of the trade. Visitors may also try their hand at practising the crafts themselves.

This market of diverse arts and crafts takes place at the 4th weekend in October, also featuring the Old Town Market, the Antiques Market and the Medieval Market. In the romantic alleys of the old town you may meet buskers and artists entertaining the visitors with their music and tricks or playing a prank on the unsuspecting ...

A popular highlight is the vintage car exhibition at Obertorplatz, where you can get a ride in one of the old-fashioned automobiles. On both market days all the shops in the old town are open.

Origins of the market

Synesius's Blessing

The bones of St. Synesius were brought to Bremgarten from the catacombs in Rome in 1653 and since then, he has been the patron saint of the town and the district. He is specially revered for his help with afflictions of the eyes. His saint's day on the 4th Sunday in October draws hoards of pilgrims to Bremgarten hoping to have their eyes blessed and healed by their devotion to his consecrated relics. On this market day Saint Synesius is remembered and every year over 10,000 devout believers have their eyes blessed by their saint.
